Fort Baker

Fort Baker is a 335-acre open space that is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area managed by the National Park Service. It is located adjacent to the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge and Horseshoe Bay. Fort Baker is home to the Bay Area Discovery Museum, the Cavallo Point Lodge, and a U.S. Coast Guard facility and historic parade grounds. The master plan redesign goal is to establish the site as a center for sustainability, education, hospitality, and waterfront activities.

Concept

The master plan redesign signifies a light touch by adding and redistributing site nodes and programming and prioritizing improvements to overall functionality. The design provides safe pedestrian access and trail systems to the waterfront and other program areas, manages stormwater runoff, and features native planting that supports pollinators, including the endangered Mission blue butterfly.
